Ted Cruz Prepared For Convention Battle With Donald Trump

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Presidential candidate Ted Cruz said he is prepared to fight Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination at a contested convention this Summer in Cleveland.

Cruz, during an interview with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said no one will reach the required delegate count and the victor will determined by a floor fight.

"We are headed to a contested convention. At this point, nobody is getting 1237. Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1237. He's not getting there either. None of us are getting to 1237. We're going to go into Cleveland, I'm going to have ton of delegates. Donald's going to have a ton of delegates. It is going to be a battle in Cleveland to see who can earn a majority of the delegates who have been elected by the people."

He pointed to the important role Pennsylvania will play in both the primary process, with the majority of delegates elected being undeclared, and in the election against the Democratic nominee in November.

"Pennsylvania is going to have a powerful voice and we're campaigning hard here in the primary and not only that, we're going to campaign hard here in the general and do everything possible to win Pennsylvania in the general. Right now the polling shows Hillary Clinton clobbers Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. Hillary and I are tied in the general election in Pennsylvania and we're going win it in the general if people come out and stand together."

Cruz attempted to make the case that he is the only viable Republican nominee that can win the White House against Hillary Clinton, citing recent polls that show Trump significantly behind the former Secretary of State.

"We have got win and if Donald Trump is the nominee, it elects Hillary Clinton. Every vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Hillary Clinton. You might as well put a Hillary sticker on your car because Hillary wins by double digits against Donald Trump. I beat Hillary in the election and that's why Republicans are coming together and are uniting behind a positive, optimistic message to bring back jobs and economic growth, to defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights and to keep America safe and defeat radical Islamic terrorists."
