Survey: Many Americans Wary Of New U.S. Role In Iraq
By Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As tensions mount in Iraq, a brand new CBS News survey shows that the American people are divided but mosty against more involvement in Iraq.
Fifty percent of those questioned believe the US has no responsibility to do something about the violence in Iraq; 42 percent say we do.
Forty-four percent believe the militants' move in Iraq will increase the potential for terrorism in the US.
The members of political parties show a difference of opinion, with more Republicans in support of action. But over 40 percent of Republicans are also against involvement.
There is one especially interesting number in this poll: by a third, more Americans support involvement in Iraq than getting involved in Syria or Ukraine.
