Supreme Court's Decision On Abortion Sends Ripples Through Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania lawmakers in favor of keeping abortion clinics open are talking about the impact the US Supreme Court's decision will have on state law.
On Monday, the high court struck down a strict Texas law designed to make it difficult for women to get abortions.
Senator Daylin Leach, who represents parts of Montgomery and Delaware Counties, says the Supreme Court decision throws Pennsylvania's restrictive 2011 state law on abortion in jeopardy.
"So, we now have a Pennsylvania law which has been found to be blatantly unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court, and my effort is to get that law off the books and stop it from continuing to be enforced."
Leach says the law could be repealed, or a lawsuit could be filed to make it unenforceable. All of this happened after a group of anti-abortion legislators introduced a bill recently, which would have made it even more difficult for women to obtain an abortion in Pennsylvania.
