Supreme Court Declines Request From Pennsylvania GOP To Stop Redistricting

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court will not stop a Pennsylvania court order requiring Congressional districts in the state be re-drawn.

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito denied a request Monday to put a hold on redistricting from top republicans from the Pennsylvania state legislature.

Two weeks ago, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled 2011 congressional district map violated the state constitution, based on the argument that it was a partisan gerrymander.

Republican state lawmakers call the move "judicial-mandering" and made the unsuccessful request to the U.S. Supreme Court arguing the state court ruling violated the federal elections cause.

Friday is the deadline the court set for the new map.

Pennsylvania's primary is scheduled for May 15th.
