Sudden Onslaught of Snow Catches Some Morning Commuters By Surprise
By Mark Abrams
COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- The changeover from rain to snow this morning occurred first in the northern and western suburbs. And once it came, the snow began piling up quickly, making for a challenging morning commute.
It seemed at times that as fast as the plow trucks passed over a roadway, the storm quickly re-covered it.
In the far western suburbs, drivers had no choice but to slow down: speeds averaged 20 to 25 miles an hour. And they got a sobering reminder here in Coatesville, where one SUV driver lost control on northbound Route 82 and his vehicle ended up in a ditch.
He wasn't hurt, but found himself needing a tow truck to get out.
Other drivers found snow-covered Route 30 to be a challenge, and Route 340 toward the Thorndale area wasn't a picnic either.
