Students At 5 Philadelphia High Schools Hold 'Die-In' Protests
By Walt Hunter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Students at five Philadelphia High Schools protested recent events in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City, throughout the day, all of the demonstrations peaceful without incidents or arrests.
One hour later, students at Science Leadership Academy at 22nd and Arch also staged a "die-in", while students from two Kensington High Schools walked out of classes, staging an impromptu march through neighborhood streets.
Finally, at dismissal time, scores of students at Central High staged a "die-in", the students laying on a second floor hallway for four minutes and 30 seconds, symbolic of the four hours and 30 minutes Michael Brown's body lay on the street in Ferguson.
The demonstrators all expressed concerns about what they say are fundamental failures of the justice system in dealing with police violence against members of the African American community.
