Man killed in South Philadelphia shooting identified; 3 suspects wanted, police say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 25-year-old man riding his bike was fatally shot in South Philadelphia after three suspects fired more than 40 shots just off Broad Street on Wednesday night, police said.
The shooting happened on the 1500 block of Snyder Avenue around 7 p.m., according to police.
Police said the man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene at 7:08 p.m. Police identified the 25-year-old man as Kaishef Johnson of Philadelphia.
According to police, the entire shooting was caught on surveillance cameras.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said three men got out of a dark-colored sedan and began firing shots at the bicyclist. They then stood over Johnson and shot him while he was on the ground. Police believe he was targeted.
"They clearly are targeting and shooting at this 25-year-old male who's on the bicycle... when the victim falls off of his bike, falls onto the street, the three shooters are seen standing over him, and continuing firing shots."
The shooters then got back into the car and drove east on Snyder, Small said.
On Thursday, police said the three shooters were dressed in all black with masks and gloves and drove off in a burgundy Nissan. Hours later, officers found the vehicle on the 2000 block of South Front Street in the city's Pennsport neighborhood.
A SEPTA bus was pulled over at the scene Wednesday night because its surveillance cameras may have captured the shooting, Small added. The bus was not hit by gunfire.
Small said multiple people witnessed the shooting, which happened in a busy residential and business area not long after rush hour.
"It's 7 o'clock, it's a beautiful summer night, weather's really nice. It was broad daylight at 7 o'clock, we know there were multiple people out here."
"We're sure many people heard things and possibly saw," Small added.
So far, no arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered, according to police.
