South Jersey Town Prepared For Whatever Comes
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- Municipalities large and small are bracing for this weekend's winter storm.
KYW's David Madden checked on how one South Jersey town is prepared for whatever comes.
Gloucester Township, Camden County is scheduled to erect a pair of permanent solar power stations next week for residents to charge cell phones.
They won't help this weekend, but a new portable charging station will be deployed to any areas where the power goes out.
Mayor David Mayer also unveiled plans to keep 20 critical traffic lights on if the lights go out. Transfer switches will allow for generators to be used at those locations.
"The transfer switches are already installed. So the only thing that has to be transported is the actual generator," Mayer told KYW Newsradio.
The township building will also be used as a warming station, in the event that is needed.
Police are urging common sense this weekend, to avoid using gas stoves for heat and stay off the roads.
