Soul Face Must-Win Situation In Iowa On Saturday Night
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Soul sit with a record of 6-8 and four games remaining in the regular season. They are two games out of the final playoff spot in the American Conference and head coach Clint Dolezel says that makes the mission pretty clear from this point on.
"We can't afford to lose another one," Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio.
The first must-win game will be on Saturday when Philadelphia visits the Iowa Barnstormers.
Last time out, the Soul did everything but win against Cleveland, losing 69-68 when the Gladiators connected on a 47-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass on the game's final play from scrimmage.
"We played well for most of the game, no questions asked," Dolezel says. "All three phases played pretty darn good football. Not a lot you can do when they throw from their own (three)-yard line and the quarterback gets it right at the goal line at the other end, we try to knock it down, it goes right to one of their guys for a walk-in touchdown. Pretty frustrating."
This is just the latest of several tough losses Philadelphia has suffered this season and Dolezel says they have to work hard not to let the difficult defeats get them down.
"If you're human, it's really tough," Dolezel says. "It starts to get in the back of your head, 'What's going on here? What are we doing wrong? What do we need to change?' All those things. When it just comes down to it, we've just got to have some things go our way and make things go our way."
Iowa is also 6-8 this season. Philadelphia won the first meeting between the two teams, 60-55, back on April 27th at the Center.
Saturday's game will kick-off at 8:05 pm.
