Program Aimed To Help Long-termed Unemployed Returns To Chester County

CHESTER COUNTY (CBS) -- A pilot program aimed at getting long-term unemployed back to work was so successful, officials in Chester County are bringing it back for another round.

Chester County's initial 'Platform to Employment' had an 80-percent success rate. Director of Chester County workforce development board, Patrick Bokovitz says while it did make a difference, they are still looking to improve it.

"It was very successful. Having said that, there are some modifications we are making," Bokovitz said.

The five-week program is for anyone unemployed for 27-weeks or more, and Bokovitz says it's much more than a resume writing seminar.

"Looking for individuals who may need support around financial counselling, may need support around anxiety issues related to being long term unemployed," he said.

After the 5-week training, the applicants are set up with an 8-week trial employment with a company.

The application process is open now through April 29th, at platformtoemployment.com.
