Power Restored For Many While Others Remain In The Dark

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Tens of thousands of PECO customers were happy and warm Saturday night, with their power restored four days after an ice storm knocked nearly three-quarters-of-a-million folks off the grid. But, there's still many more people throughout the area who are still in the dark.

"I'm feeling a little traumatized at this point," says Lori, who lives in Chester Springs, Chester County.

In Chester County, just under 40,000 customers remained without power on Saturday night. Another 40,000 combined in Montgomery, Bucks and Delaware Counties were still off the grid Saturday night.

Lori is using a generator..but remains hopeful PECO will turn on the lights soon:

"I see a lot of lines down, but I haven't seen a lot of crews to be honest."

Spokesperson Kathy Engle Menendez says PECO has 5,700 employees working to get the power on as soon as possible:

"Service will be returned for many customers remaining without power by the end of the weekend."

She says customers in the most heavily damaged areas may have to wait until early next week.
