Pop-Up Garden Opens In South Philadelphia
By Justin Udo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A pop-up garden springs to life in the heart of South Philadelphia.
Located across the street from Pat's and Geno's, the East Passyunk Garden is bringing life to a formerly vacant lot.
And for those who come out, they can do a lot more than just stop and smell the roses. There are different horticultural classes going on throughout the summer.
"Learn something about gardening, learn about best practices, learn about sustainable ways of maintaining outdoors."
The garden also boasts a kitchen and bar.
"What we wanted to do was kind of tie in a little bit of South Philly flavor into everything that we did."
That Philadelphia flavor bleeds through in their dishes like the Italian popcorn, the Bobby Rydell Caprese and a Chubby Checker dessert.
The garden, which was constructed using sustainable practices and re-purposed materials, stays open through October 1st.
