Police: Upper Darby Man Bludgeoned To Death Inside Home

UPPER DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- Upper Darby police are investigating the beating death of a 59 year-old man whose body was found Monday morning in his home.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says police were called to the house in the 7100 block of Ruskin Lane early Monday by two of Michael Fanning's coworkers at Haverford College, who were worried after he failed to show up for a painting job over the weekend.

"And he was the type of guy who was always there, and so they were concerned about his well-being, and they went to his house looking for him," Chitwood said.

When police got inside, they found Fanning's bludgeoned body in bed. Chitwood says the dead man's car is missing, a silver 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis with a black ragtop with a Pennsylvania vanity plate reading "Ricter." Authorities are looking for Fanning's roommates, and asks anyone with information to call Upper Darby police at 610-734-7687.
