Police: Two Men Posing As Cops Rob Distribution Center In Fishtown
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are searching for two armed men who posed as police officers and robbed a food distribution center in Fishtown.
It happened around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday at Kawa Trading Corp. along the 1700 block of Delaware Avenue.
Authorities say two men wearing police hats, and at least one of whom appeared to be wearing a badge around his neck, knocked on the door of the business and identified themselves as police. Once inside, police say, the two men pointed guns at the heads of the two owners and forced them to open the safe.
Police say the suspects stole almost $80,000 in cash, and then attempted to disable the surveillance system.
"They took the monitor, which was pretty large monitor off of the shelf and threw it to the ground and were pulling on the wires." said Chief Inspector Scott Small." However, that was just the monitor. The recording equipment was in another room and that recording is completely intact. It did record pretty much everything they did, not only outside, but inside."
The two men took off in an dark-colored SUV which had flashing lights in the center of the dashboard.
Police are not ruling out the possibility that the heist was an inside job.
The Investigation continues.
