Police: Man Shoots Girlfriend's Mother, Turns Gun On Self

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a man shot and wounded his girlfriend's mother before turning the gun on himself inside a home in Southwest Philadelphia.

It happened early Sunday morning along the 2600 block of Holbrook Street.

Authorities say it began when the 37-year-old man assaulted his girlfriend during an argument at a bar. He then went home and began fighting with his girlfriend's mother. That's when, police say, the man pulled a gun and shot the 61-year-old woman in her arm.

Police say she managed to escape the home and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.

The man barricaded himself inside the home for several hours.

A SWAT team cleared the home and found the man lying in a second floor bedroom with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
