Police Issue Warning For Women Jogging And Walking Alone
By Walt Hunter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are advising women to stay alert and keep "situational awareness" following four crimes victimizing women outdoors across two states in just over a week.
Three of the alleged victims were assaulted.
Radnor Police say they are now preparing a warrant charging Peter Curtis with indecent assault and other charges after they say he allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old jogger on the Radnor Trail Tuesday morning.
Curtis, police say, escaped, but was arrested by Media police less than 24 hours later after he allegedly assaulted a woman on a street there and fought with officers who were taking him into custody.
Radnor detectives praised the 18-year-old jogger for her courage in coming forward, reporting the assault, then picking Curtis picture from a photo spread.
Meanwhile, Radnor investigators say at the same location on the trail Friday morning a naked man indecently exposed himself to a woman. The suspect still has not been caught.
In Newark, Delaware, investigators announced the apprehension of a suspect accused of attacking a jogger on a park trail there.
Radnor Police Lieutenant Andy Block cautioned women outdoors in all neighborhoods to stay alert and try not to jog, walk or ride alone.
He also urged anyone seeing anything suspicious to call immediately, instead of waiting until they finish their walk or run.
Finally, Radnor Police say they are trying to determine if Curtis may have been involved in any other assaults and they ask anyone with information to call immediately.
