Police Issue South Philadelphia Robbery Alert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Beyond the scary decorations, this Halloween there are real-life crime concerns for one South Philadelphia neighborhood. On streets east of Broad, west of 7th and between Washington and Shunk, 8 robberies in just over a week.
3rd District Captain Frank Milillo told CBS 3's Walt Hunter the crimes range from purse snatches and phone thefts to a commercial robberies. No one group of suspects is responsible, the Captain explained and while weapons have been shown in several of the robberies, no one has been hurt.
Captain Milillo says he issued the crime alert to make neighbors extra alert as they head out, often with children for Halloween. After issuing the alert, police joined with neighbors for a previously planned walk for peace and unity following a recent murder and shooting. It's the kind of police/community cooperation that, it's hoped, will help bring the robbery spree to an end.
