Police Investigate Appearance Of Vandalism At Local Playground
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating the appearance of vandalism at a neighborhood playground in Somerton.
Eyewitness News was at Boyle Playground on Stevens Road, where the vandals spray-painted and vandalized playground equipment.
So far, police do not have any suspects.
The Boyle Rec Center and Playground is named for Philadelphia police officer Daniel Boyle, who was killed in the line of duty in 1991.
Many of the people Eyewitness News spoke to say this is a very special park for this community because it serves as a reminder of Officer Boyle.
So when folks showed up here today to find graffiti, some say they were devastated.
"It just really hurts. It hurts very badly," said a resident.
Park officials say Monday evening, someone sprayed the slide and other parts of the playground.
"It's sad. Who would do something like that to a playground named after a very special person that I knew, a police officer that I knew," said a resident.
Police say they have not identified a suspect, but surveillance cameras surround the park.
Park officials tell Eyewitness News this is the second time the park has been vandalized, the first was in 2013.
Eyewitness News is told a cleaning crew will be out Wednesday morning to clean it up.
