PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A normally quiet neighborhood near Fairmount was rattled Friday after a broad daylight shooting and attempted robbery.
"Today we had a young man who got shot doing his job, and he ran up the street, and said, 'I've been shot! I've been shot,'" said Milton Sloan.
The victim, a 57-year-old construction worker, collapsed in front of Sloan's home.
He told Sloan and other neighbors he was working with a crew demoing a home on 20th and Brown Street when an armed robber walked in.
"He is the foreman of the crew that is tearing down the house. Whoever came and shot him knew that he is paying his people on Friday," said Sloan.
The attacker got away before police arrived.
"It's obviously concerning that somebody is out here with a gun and they haven't caught him yet," said Kevin O'Brien, who lives nearby.
Philadelphia police increased the patrols around the Fairmont area to put homeowners at ease and with hundreds expected to head to and from the annual Terror Behind the Walls event at the Eastern State Penitentiary.
Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
