Police: Elderly Woman Dragged 30 Feet During Purse Snatching In Wilmington
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Police say they've arrested a Wilmington woman for stealing an elderly woman's purse and dragging her for 30 feet in the process.
On Wednesday, Nov. 26th around 11 a.m., Newark Police responded to reports of a purse snatching in the area of East Main Street and Tyre Avenue.
The victim, a 78-year-old woman, was reportedly entering a doctor's office on Main Street when the suspect came up behind her and grabbed her purse.
The elderly woman was knocked over and dragged about 30 feet while the purse remained on her shoulder.
A witness reportedly yelled at the female suspect, who then let go of the victim and fled on foot.
Police say the witness then chased the suspect southbound on Tyre Avenue and into the George Reed Village neighborhood.
That witness was then able to flag down a police officer driving on East Delaware Avenue who apprehended the suspect.
The suspect, who was identified as Nasha L. Brooks, is now facing charges of Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Crime Against a Person 62 Years or Older, Assault 2nd Degree, Injury to a Person Over 62 Years of Age, Offensive Touching and Criminal Mischief.
