Police: 14-Year-Old Boy Shot, Killed In Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are searching for a teen boy's killers who ran off after shooting the victim in the Mayfair section of the city last night.

The motive isn't clear, says Police Commissioner Richard Ross.

"Fourteen year old boy, it's so sad. Had his whole life ahead of him. I didn't know him obviously, but 14 - that's a baby."

It happened in the area of Brous and Devereaux Avenues in Mayfair. That's where, around 9 Monday night, police say two men approached the boy and his 16-year-old friend, and one of the attackers fired a gun, shooting the victim three times.

Police rushed the boy to the hospital, where he died.

The victim's friend has been talking to police.

There are surveillance cameras in the neighborhood as well.

Police say the victim didn't live in that particular neighborhood but about a mile and a half away. He was set to turn 15 in December.
