Suspect Arrested Following Deadly Shooting In Phoenixville

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. (CBS) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Phoenixville on Thursday night.

Police say the alleged shooter, Keyon Carpenter, 21, has been taken into custody on Friday afternoon by the Philadelphia Police Department.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Bridge Street, near Main Street, after shots were fired around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, they found 20-year-old Joshua Mitchell suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Police say witnesses identified Carpenter as the gunman.

Mitchell and Carpenter were allegedly arguing when Carpenter pulled a gun. Mitchell tried to run, but Carpenter chased him down and shot him, according to police.

Carpenter ran off after the shooting. Police say they recovered the weapon at the scene, which was a stolen handgun with damage to the serial number.
