Philly Bike Share Program Shifts Into Gear

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philly's bike share program officially gets rolling this afternoon.
Years in the making, the bike sharing system called "Indego" is now here. The Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities runs the program.
Chief of Staff Andrew Stober says the blue bikes will be docked in many Philly neighborhoods:
"Just like SEPTA, you ride it from station to station, stop to stop. We'll have, by the end of next week, almost 70 stations around the city. Today we have nearly 60."
So far, around 1,000 people have signed up.
"Fifteen dollars a month for unlimited one hour trips," Stober says. Or you can pay per ride at the kiosks.
In terms of safety, you'll have to bring a helmet. The bikes have pedal powers lights on the front and back.
And for drivers who may be worried about more bikes on the streets....
"The experience across the U.S and internationally is the more bikes you have on the road, actually the safer it gets for everybody. Drivers are used to seeing them," says Stober.
You can return the bikes at any station.
