Phillies Open Spring Schedule With Loss To University Of Tampa
CLEARWATER, Fl - (CBS) -- The Phillies played their first game of competitive baseball as they kicked off their spring training schedule against the University of Tampa. The Phillies faced the Spartans on Sunday and lost to the university, 6-2.
The Phillies took a two-run lead over the University of Tampa in the 2nd inning.
Aaron Altherr drove in a run with a double in the inning and scored on a throwing error. That was the end of the scoring for the Phillies.
The Spartans pulled to within a run in the sixth inning before exploding for a five-run seventh inning which including a grand slam from Giovanny Alfonzo.
The Phillies kick off their official spring training schedule on Tuesday when they face the Yankees at 1:05 at Bright House Field in Clearwater.
