Phillies Give Howard A Grand Send Off
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies held a pregame ceremony to thank first baseman Ryan Howard for his years of service.
"I want to thank you because I've grown with all of you," he said.
Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt presented Howard with a plaque and Howard's son placed a marker in the place where his 58th home run landed in 2006. For Jim, that memorable run is his favorite Howard memory.
"He was one of those guys that whenever he came to the plate, you stopped what you're doing to watch. Class guy," he said. "Gonna miss him."
Manny from Brooklyn is a Mets fan who has a lot of respect for number six.
"As a fan of the sport, you know, I enjoyed watching him play."
Howard ends his career as a Phillie with nearly 1200 RBIs and one very important world series title.
