Philadelphia Trash And Recycling Collection WILL Happen On President's Day

By Mike Dunn

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Despite the fact that this is a holiday, the city of Philadelphia will have trash and recycling collection today -- a change made in light of last week's nor'easter.

It is a city as well as a federal holiday, but as the storm bore down on the city last week, Mayor Nutter announced that those neighborhoods with regular Monday pick-up should put their trash and recycling out today:

"Normal trash collection for Monday trash pickup will be picked up this Monday, even though it is a holiday," Nutter said.

Two days of collections, Thursday and Friday, had been cancelled last week.

Also note that those homes which normally have back alley trash collection should instead put their trash at the curbs.

"We're asking you to put your trash and recycling at the curbside or at the front of your home, and we will collect it," says Nutter.

And the normal schedule will continue the rest of the week -- weather permitting.
