Phila. School District Implements New Plan Aimed At Improving Early Childhood Education

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The School District of Philadelphia is launching city wide literacy programs aimed at students from pre-K through 4th grade.
They kicked things off at a program Wednesday night.
From new books, to different ways parents can make learning more fun for their kids, literacy night offered something for just about everyone in the family.
"Kids will want to learn, their reading will get better, their academic success with strengthen."
Evelin Sample-Oats with the district says this is an opportunity for parents to come out and find out some of the things they can do at home to reinforce the learning that's being done in the classroom and to continue it at home.
"We're going to do events like this in every one of our schools."
Natasha Pindle has four kids in school. She says this program is much needed.
"It's very important, because there's a lot of information, a lot of workshops, you meet a lot of new people and a lot of things when you come to things like this, they'll let you know."
Pindle says she can't wait to start using her newly found teaching tools with her children.
