Pennsylvania Representative Seeks To Have Bridge Named After Joe Paterno
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to a report from PennLive, Pennsylvania Representative Michael Regan is preparing to propose a bill that will rename a bridge after legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.
The report adds that Regan, a Republican representing Northern York County, wants to honor the football accomplishments of the late coach.
If passed, the bill would rename the Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge, that goes over the Susquehanna River, the "Joseph V. Paterno Memorial Bridge." According to the report, the bill has yet to be introduced.
Earlier this year, Paterno had his previously vacated wins (1998-2011) restored, once again making him the winningest coach in college football history. The gesture marked a return to prominence for Paterno who had his legacy tarnished by the vacated wins.
Honoring Paterno's life has been a complicated matter for Penn State ever since the Sandusky scandal and the subsequent sanctions against their school. Paterno's statue was removed from Penn State.
A recent poll showed that most Pennsylvanians would support the restoration of Paterno's statue at Penn State.
