Pedestrian Struck, Critically Injured By Car In Roxborough

By Molly Daly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man was seriously injured early Sunday morning when he was struck by a car that authorities say swerved to avoid a collision with another in Northwest Philadelphia.

Philadelphia police say it happened just before 3:30 a.m in the 6700 block of Henry Avenue, near Valley Avenue, in the city's Roxborough section.

The driver told police she had swerved to avoid being hit by another vehicle when she struck the 25-year-old man, who was walking in the southbound bike lane. Pedestrians have to use the that lane or the shoulder on that stretch of Henry Avenue because there is no sidewalk.

The victim suffered a major head injury, broken right femur, and internal bleeding. He's in critical condition at Temple University Hospital.

The driver, who stayed with the injured man until the police and medics arrived, wasn't charged.

Police are still investigating.
