Pa. State Trooper Shot During Police Chase Has Bullet Removed

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pennsylvania State Police have released an update on Trooper Patrick Casey, who was shot in the shoulder during a traffic stop-turned police chase on the Vine Street Expressway November 24th. 

Today, doctors at Hahnemann Hospital removed the bullet from Casey's right shoulder area.

"This was an outpatient procedure and Trooper Casey returned to his home at the conclusion of his appointment," Pa. State Police Captain James P. Raykovitz said.

The bullet was taken into evidence and will be processed in the crime lab.

Authorities identified the alleged gunman as 17-year-old Giovanny Cotto.

Cotto has been charged as an adult with Attempted Murder.
