Outside Agency Now Marketing Vacant Philadelphia School Buildings
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's a fresh push to sell Philadelphia's empty school buildings.
You may not see curbside balloons, but open houses are being scheduled at 20 Philadelphia school buildings, now shuttered -- including Germantown High and the former William Penn High, at Broad and Master.
The Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation is now handling the sales for the district, which school district spokesman Fernando Gallard says PIDC -- with a bigger portfolio of vacant properties and a smaller central office staff -- is better suited to do.
"We believe it is the right partnership to allow us to quickly go through these properties, put them in the market, and get the best price for them," Gallard tells KYW Newsradio.
The district, on its own, sold eight vacant properties in March, bringing in under $30 million (see related story).
