Woman arrested in shooting of 7-month-old boy in Holmesburg identified
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A suspect arrested in the shooting of an infant in Philadelphia's Holmesburg neighborhood was identified Saturday as 28-year-old Dominique Billups.
Police took Billups into custody without incident on Van Kirk Street in Oxford Circle on Friday evening.
The 7-month-old boy was shot in the thigh in the area of Frankford Avenue and Meridian Street Thursday night. The parents were not hit.
During their investigation, police say they received a tip about the alleged shooter's identity.
Following up with witnesses, they were able to identify her as Dominique Billups.
During a search of two homes, officers recovered an extended magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition.
The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has charged Billups with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment of another person, and more.
The parents of the 7-month-old boy were also arrested on burglary warrants, according to police.
Philadelphia Police Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum says it appears the shooting stemmed from a $100 narcotics debt.
As of Friday, the baby remained at CHOP in stable condition.
