Extended NJT Bus Service Into Center City Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New Jersey Transit is now offering bus service to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.
NJT saw a need to take bus lines past Philadelphia City Hall, according to spokesman Jim Smith.
"We've been able to reconfigure two of those existing bus routes and renumber a third bus route to allow our customers to get closer to the business district in center city Philadelphia during the weekday peak hours in the morning and the afternoon," Smith told KYW Newsradio.
The changes are made to the 414, which begins its run at the Moorestown Mall and the 417 out of Mount Holly. The third is route 555, and will have three morning runs in town and three evening runs out to the Avandale Park and Ride lot in Sicklerville. They'll replace similar runs on route 551, but won't stop at the Greyhound Bus Terminal or the Rand Transportation Center in Camden.
It appears many riders were walking west to get further into Center City or to make the Amtrak connection.
"What we were able to do is to reconfigure some of these bus routes to be able to bring them farther west and closer to the business district in Center City Philadelphia," Smith added.
It's not clear just how many people might avail themselves of the extended service, which will run along JFK Boulevard and Market Street to 30th street station.
