NJ State Police Escort Organ Recipient To Philadelphia During Papal Visit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- According to New Jersey State Police, a woman received great news on Saturday; news that some might describe as a miracle. The woman needed a kidney transplant and she received word that a donated kidney was available at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.
The only issue was that the Papal Visit made travel into Philadelphia from New Jersey much harder than usual.
State Police say they were notified at 11 a.m. that an escort was needed from Berlin, N.J. to Philadelphia.
According to State Police, Sergeant Chris Modarelli escorted the patient along with a JeffSTAT ambulance over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge which was closed to vehicular traffic because of the Papal Visit.
Modarelli was met by Pennsylvania State Police on the other side.
According to officials, the women was safely transported to the hospital.
