Nick Foles: "I Love This City"
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The last thing anyone expected out of the 2013 Eagles season was a storybook performance from Nick Foles.
After Michael Vick won the starting quarterback job, and relatively convincingly, before the season began, many figured that Foles would be a solid backup, or trade-bait. It worked out a little better than that for the second-year player out of Arizona.
Foles not only ended up as the Eagles starter, but he set records. He set a lot of records. He tied a record for TD passes in one game, set a record for QB rating in a calendar month, set a record for TD to interception ratio, and had the third best QB rating of all-time. All of that while helping the Eagles to a 7-1 second half record, and a NFC East title.
After the game, Foles sounded more like a seasoned veteran, than a second year player. No longer guarded, but honest and straight-forward.
"It's tough to lose. It hurts. I'm hurting inside right now, in my heart, but I'm going to keep my head held high because I love my teammates, I love this city, and I'm going to keep fighting for this city," Foles said. "I'm going to keep playing and this team is going to keep playing. I know that the season is over, but we're going to keep working."
"We're going to keep growing as a team. I love playing here. I love this city, I love this team, I love this organization because I know the heart of it. The heart of it is the heart of Philadelphia. It's like Coach Kelly said, we fight and we're going to keep fighting."
