New Location For Christmas Nativity Scene In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Christmas crèche has been erected at a new location in the city this year.

Joined by students from St. Francis Xavier School singing Christmas, Fr. Dennis Gill, rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on the Parkway, dedicated and blessed the Christmas Nativity scene.

Gill says the crèche had been erected for several years in Love Park, across from City Hall..

"With Love Park under reconstruction, it was necessary to find another location," Gill explained. "And, happily, that new location, at least this year, will be on the corner of the Parkway and 18th Street, which is the corner of the property of the Cathedral Basilica."

Gill says the Knights of Columbus and the Ancient Order of Hibernians are responsible for supporting construction and placing and maintaining the Christmas nativity scene.
