New Jersey Gas Prices Rising Just Days Before Gas Tax Hike
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Motorists are seeing slightly higher prices at the pumps in New Jersey, just days before a much sharper increase will take place.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $2.04, up a penny from last week. That's also higher than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $1.94.
But motorists will be paying much more come Tuesday, when a 23-cents-per-gallon increase in the state's gas tax takes effect.
The national average gas price on Friday was $2.22, down a penny from last week. That's also lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.25.
