More Adoptable Dogs Arriving At Brandywine Valley SPCA Ahead Of Hurricane Laura

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. (CBS) - More dogs and cats are arriving in our region Thursday from the Gulf Coast as animal shelters in the path of Hurricane Laura cleared out shelters to make room for other animals affected by the storm.

More than 30 evacuated dogs arrived to the New Castle County Airport on a flight from Louisiana on Wednesday and more than 40 were arrived on Tuesday. All the animals are looking for homes.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA is caring for the dogs, which will be adoptable in Georgetown, Dover, New Castle and West Chester.

"We actually help on an ongoing basis," Brandywine Valley SPCA Marketing Director Linda Torelli said. "These are emergency rescue missions. Louisiana has the fifth highest euthanasia rate in the country. Now when they're facing flooding in addition to that we want to get those dogs out of the shelters get them to safety up here."
