Man Killed In Freak Accident On The Main Line Identified

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities have identified the man killed in a tragic accident on the Main Line.

Without warning, a tree came crashing down on his car and gusty winds may have played a role.

"It was very loud, very chaotic."

Neighbor David Reiser recalls the sickening sound, when the tree came crashing down, but it's what he saw next that he can't forget.

"It was a pretty grizzly scene. I tried to process what to do and tried to help, but the police were here so fast."

On Tuesday, police identified 54-year-old Narces Mothersil as the man who was driving the car involved in the crash.

Police say Monday afternoon, shortly before 5, Mothersil was driving South on Sproul Road near Sunny Hill Lane in Villanova.

Then a tree suddenly uprooted and landed directly on top of his car.

Mothersil, who was en route to pick up one of his two children, died at the hospital.

"That gentleman was just driving home and the tree comes down without warning. It cost him his life."

Lt. Andy Block says the weather was a factor.

"We were experiencing wind in the area of 20-to-25 miles per hour with gusts up to 40."

The car crossed over the median, striking an oncoming vehicle. No one else was hurt.

Most of the tree ended up Reiser's yard, destroying his fence and scaring his three small children.

"A very sobering experience to say the least you think about 'what if' - what could have happened, and then you think about the outcome of the car accident and the victim's family... I just feel lucky."
