Man Honors Late Wife, Raises Awareness For Lung Health On Musical Trip Across The Ben Franklin Bridge
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The beautiful weather made it the perfect night to draw attention to women's lung health in an unusual way.
With the sun setting over Philadelphia, David Cohen set out on a 3800 step, nearly two-mile journey over the Ben Franklin Bridge, playing the bagpipes along the way.
Fittingly, he did it to showcase lung health and to kick off Women's Lung Health Week.
"Whatever I can do to help raise awareness to help raise funds, is what I do," Cohen said.
He lost his wife of 25 years, Tatyana, to cancer five years ago.
"She fought hard, she loved America," Cohen said. " She came here seeking the privileges that hard work gives you. She loved life and she fought really, really hard."
In her memory, he now shares his talents every chance he gets to raise awareness of women's health issues.
"She would be very proud," he said. "These are all things that I wish I didn't have an awareness of and that's what cancer does."
With his wife on his mind the entire span, he ended on her favorite song, "The Blue Bells of Scotland."
To mark Women's Lung Health Week, there will be a LUNG FORCE walk in Headhouse Square on Saturday. Cohen will lead the walk with his bagpipes, of course.
