Making The Vaccination Process A Little Easier For Kids

WILMINGTON, DE (CBS) --- If your children or grandchildren are headed back to school, they must be up to date with required vaccinations.
No one likes to get a shot, but vaccinations are required by school districts. Parents and pediatricians can make it easier for kids to suffer through the pain.
Dr. Jonathan Miller, director of Primary Care Pediatrics at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children uses diversions.
"We have all kinds of tricks up our sleeves, from the use of toys and stickers and books, I personally like to bring out the Donald Duck voice occasionally," he said.
Miller says younger patients rally quickly.
"The babies get over it quicker than most of the other children to be honest with you, we just do it very quickly for them," he said. "We can use a pacifier for children who use pacifiers, they tend to have a little delayed cry then most get over it pretty quickly."
He says parents can give kids 6 months and older ibuprofen, or Tylenol for kids of any age.
