Maceo Parker Performs At The Merriam Theater
By R.J. McKay
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Jay Wahl, the artistic director at the Kimmel Center, previewed the Maceo Parker concert on January 17th at the Merriam Theater.
"Well, first of all, you're not going to sit still at this concert; you're going to be on your feet the whole time. You're going to be shaking all sorts of places in your body. You're going to be shaking it low, and high, and groovy and funky – it's going to be funky," Wahl says.
He also shared some details on Parker's legendary career.
"He really came to fame performing with James Brown and does many albums with him. That's really exciting to hear, a performer who made all of those James Brown records so special. He went solo in the 70s – he has recorded 14 solo albums – so he has quite an impressive career on his own, despite having played with Brown and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, and Bootsy Collins and others."
