Local Mom Blogs About Trying A New Pinterest Project Every Day For A Year
By Kristina Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Most ladies (and some men) have lost track of time pinning away delicious treats, outfits, and arts and crafts on Pinterest.
But be honest, how many of those pins have you actually attempted? Probably very few.
Kirsten, a wife and mother, decided enough was enough and set a goal for herself to try one every day for the next year.
She says, "I found myself in a position that most people have found themselves in with Pinterest. I was pinning and pinning, but not putting anything to use. What better way to put your pins to use than to try one every day for the next year?! I've always loved to write, so blogging about my journey was the obvious choice for me. I knew it was a little crazy, but I knew I could do it."
As to be expected, not every pin went according to plan. "I had a few pins that didn't work out. I tried to make bath crayons for my boys, but they crumbled before they even made it onto the tub walls. I also had a few recipes that didn't work out as I had hoped. That's why I love this blog though. It's real. Pinterest can skew things and make everything look so perfect. My blog shows people that not everything is as beautiful as it appears on Pinterest. This is real life."
But with perseverance, comes success.
"My biggest success was my tutorial explaining how to cut glass using materials you have at home. It gets more attention than anything else on my blog. It wasn't easy and definitely required more patience than any other pins I tried, but it was worth it! People love trying to make drinking glasses out of beer bottles and vases out of wine bottles."
And a successful Pinterest project means goodies for the family, right?
"Well if you ask my husband, he may complain that he's not allowed to dive into any food until the pictures have been taken. But he has loved the constant stream of new recipes and my boys have loved all the crafts and activities we have found. It's been wonderful!"
Some may be wondering why she named her blog 366 days of Pinterest instead of the normal calendar year of 365. Kirsten explains, "I started 366 Days of Pinterest in February of 2012. It was a leap year, so I got stuck with an extra day for my challenge, 366 instead of the usual 365."
The extra day certainly didn't hinder Kirsten, in fact, she is still pinning and blogging her experiences.
"My blog shows the real side of Pinterest. It's not always beautiful and picture perfect, but that's real life. I give people an idea of what these pins will look like (and taste like) before they try them. Pinterest can be so intimidating, but I hope my blog gives other people the confidence to put their pins to use as well."
So what's her next Pinterest challenge? She says, "After going strong for a straight year, I didn't post as much for a while, but I've been getting back into it recently and I have so many pins lined up to try. Stay tuned!"
