Lawmakers Bring State Budget Battle To The Suburbs
By Jim Melwert
MONTGOMERY COUNTY (CBS) -- As the state budget battle continues in Harrisburg, some Republican lawmakers brought their message to the steps of the Montgomery County courthouse to push back on a series of mailers and TV and radio ads that urge support of Governor's Wolf's plan.
State Rep Mike Vereb from Montgomery County says they're firing back after another round of direct mailings from backers of the governor's budget land in suburban mailboxes.
"Distorting the truth and putting a shield over what the agenda of this governor's tax increase is," Vereb says.
The GOP members took aim not only at the governor's budget plan but also at his tactics. State Rep Dan Truitt says it makes him question Governor Wolf's business sense.
"I don't know what kind of business person when they're trying to negotiate a deal with someone sends out mailers to the their friends," questions Truitt.
The governor's office emailed a response saying while the GOP lawmakers say they support education, when it comes time to vote, they fall in line with party leaders and support gas companies.
