Water Main Break Causes Mess In Philly's Kingsessing Section
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A water main break in the middle of the night causes water to pour through the streets of the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia.
The 16-inch water main break sent water bubbling out a hole in the ground.
The water has stopped flowing into the street and no one is without water, however, the break left behind a mess.
The water main break at the corner of 58th Street and Chester Avenue had nearby streets flooded most of the morning.
"It was really high at first," said resident Peter McDowell. "It was about waist high, so it's not bad now."
He added, "It was shooting out like a fountain. That was about 2 in the morning."
After hours of water pouring out of the main, crews were able to shut it off without interrupting water service to people in the area.
But the break will interrupt the day for many in the area.
The trolley line just above the break has been shut down.
Roads are closed from 57th Street to 59th Street and from Springfield Avenue to Kingsessing Avenue.
Crews are expected to be out here at least all day repairing the main, and may even have to work on it tomorrow.
