Kelly On Henery's Miss: 'You Have To Make A Field Goal Like That'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Alex Henery is struggling and Chip Kelly is getting frustrated.
Henery, after missing a 47-yard field-goal in the Eagles' second preseason game against the Patriots, missed a 31-yard chip shot against the Steelers on Thursday night. Henery is one for three in field-goal attempts in three preseason games.
"I wish I could put my finger on it," Kelly said after the game. "I don't know what he's battling, but obviously you have to make a field goal like that. You have to make it."
On Wednesday, the Eagles acquired rookie kicker Cody Parkey in a trade with the Colts, to go along with rookie Carey Spear and Henery. Kelly was asked how he would asses the competition at the kicker position after Thursday's 31-21 preseason win over the Steelers.
"I couldn't assess it after," Kelly said. "We just got [Parkey] literally this afternoon. We obviously need to bring someone else in, and that's what we did, and we'll see. We've got another week. The good thing is we have a week before we go play the Jets so we have a chance. I met Parkey in the locker room so."
Earlier in the week, Henery expressed that he's moved on from last year.
"I don't think back to last year, or my last kick, and that's the way you have to be to be a kicker," Henery said on Monday. "You can't really worry about what people are saying or anything like that. You move on and hit good balls."
Kelly is not so sure Henery isn't feeling the pressure.
"If outside influences are going to affect you, then that's something you've got to deal with," Kelly said. "You know what I mean? There is going to be competition at every position. Our job is to make sure we put the best players out there and the guys that give us the best chance."
