John Hanger Drops Out of Race For Pennsylvania Governor

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The winnowing of the Democratic field in the race for Pennsylvania governor continues with today's announcement by John Hanger that he's dropping out of the race.

Hanger, who served as former governor Ed Rendell's environmental protection secretary, is dropping out of the race and says another fellow Rendell cabinet member, Tom Wolf, is the reason.

Hanger says Wolf's position as the frontrunner has blown up his strategy of aggressively advertising at the end of the campaign.

"Tom's TV ads have propelled him to a position of strength and he's also caused everybody else's polling to deteriorate to a point where we're not going to be able to raise the money to be on TV at the end," Hanger said today.

Hanger's announcement comes days after Lebanon County commissioner Jo Ellen Litz failed to gather the necessary signatures to be on the ballot.

That leaves US congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, state treasurer Rob McCord, former Rendell cabinet member Katie McGinty, and former auditor general Jack Wagner in the race for the Democratic nod.
