Jim Breuer: Entertainers Should Stay Out Of Politics
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Comedian Jim Breuer spoke out against entertainers mixing their personal political views with their performances, telling Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that is something he will never do.
Breuer stated he thinks the attention that comes with fame leads some performers to take themselves too seriously.
"They can do whatever they want. When people get power, they think they become God and they're going to start a revolution. Okay, well, good. Let me know how that works. Also, most of them don't have families. They're either single or divorced. It's hard. I can't really say that for all of them...I don't watch the news and I live a very healthy lifestyle. Don't you want to know what's going on? No. Oh, let me stop the world, forget my kids soccer practice, I'm getting on a raft to Syria so I can change the world. Stop!"
He said he was surprised to learn that many acts refused to perform in North Carolina after the controversial 'bathroom bill' was signed into law.
"I'm in North Carolina and everyone is coming up to me going, thank you for not canceling. I said what? I didn't get it for the first two days. I didn't know what was going on and then people came up, you're the only artist that didn't cancel. Who canceled? Pearl Jam. I said what happened? Oh, it's the bill with where you're supposed to pee. What? So entertainers are banning a state because of a politician? How stupid are you?"
Breuer made clear that he sees himself as an entertainer and nothing more.
"I'm not there to change the world. You're paying to see me take you out of your misery for an hour, hour and a half. I'm not there to lecture you. You get that in school and at work and the news shows that are down your throat. I'm there to make you laugh."
