Jenkintown Gym Teacher Pleads Guilty To Affair With Female Student, 17

By Brad Segall

JENKINTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The former athletic director for the Jenkintown School District, in Montgomery County, Pa., has admitted he had a sexual relationship with a former student when she was a high school senior and just 17 years old.

Just before jury selection was scheduled to begin for his trial (see related story), Mark Citron pleaded guilty today to charges including corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children, both misdemeanors.

The 45-year-old Philadelphia man admitted he had an inappropriate relationship that included sexual contact as well as Facebook and text messages.

Prosecutor Jordan Friter plans to ask for jail time.

"This victim came to the school as a senior with a significant mental health history, and it's the Commonwealth's position that he preyed on that and manipulated her into this relationship," Friter tells KYW Newsradio.

The six-month affair occurred in 2010 but was not reported to authorities until two years later.

Citron is free on bail and faces a maximum of 12 years behind bars when he's sentenced later this year.
