In South Philly, Hundreds Watch as US Falls in Olympic Hockey Semifinal
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A large crowd filed into Xfinity Live in South Philadelphia today to watch the USA-Canada hockey game, despite the fact that it was a 12 noon start time.
It was much more than a typical Friday lunch crowd at Xfinity. The stars and stripes were on full display as most of the people were pulling for an American victory.
Canada's defense kept the US men's attack at bay, winning a hard-fought, 1-0 shutout.
"To me, it was kind of All-Star hockey instead of real hard-hitting hockey. And I think the US should have been more aggressive," said Mark, adding he was surprised by the massive turnout of viewers at Xfinity Live.
"When we first came in, there were 20 people, and within 20 minutes there were 500 people," he told KYW Newsradio this afternoon.
(Dougherty:) "Are you playing hookie today?"
(Mark:) "No. (Pause.) A little bit."
That's OK, Mark. You certainly weren't the only one.
The US team plays Finland for the bronze medal tomorrow.
